Born into Hardship, Rising with Resilience: My Journey as a Person with Disability in Pakistan.
The Beginning of My Journey

From my earliest days, life presented extraordinary challenges. Polio struck me as an infant, leaving my leg permanently weakened and altering the course of my life. In our small Pakistani village, my illiterate parents struggled with poverty while my father toiled as a farm laborer, earning barely enough for our necessities. Medical treatment remained out of reach financially, and well-meaning villagers misled my parents with false assurances that I would “grow out of it” as I aged. Living with polio, however, meant adapting to a permanent condition that would influence every aspect of my existence.

Educational Struggles

My childhood dream of education faced formidable obstacles. The dual barriers of disability and financial hardship made even securing admission to primary school a significant achievement. Once enrolled, I confronted additional challenges. The physical toll of polio had affected not just my body but my cognitive development as well. Despite my natural inclination toward diligence, concepts that came easily to others required extraordinary effort from me. I became a target for mockery among my peers, and the prospect of higher education seemed beyond my reach as both economic realities and physical limitations constrained my opportunities.

Navigating an Unsupportive Environment

Perhaps the most emotionally taxing aspect of my journey was the search for a life partner. My disability and financial situation became immediate barriers to acceptance. Potential matches prioritized economic security above all else, resulting in numerous painful rejections. These experiences tested my sense of self-worth, as I confronted judgment based on factors I couldn’t control. Nevertheless, I maintained my resolve, determined to demonstrate that my disability represented just one aspect of my identity, not its defining feature.

From Adversity to Achievement

Despite overwhelming odds, perseverance became my guiding principle. I channeled immense effort into strengthening my weakened leg while simultaneously working to overcome financial hardship. Each day demanded exceptional determination, but gradually, my persistence yielded results. Today, I’ve achieved what once seemed impossible—I’ve built a loving family with my spouse and three children, secured a home of our own, and even acquired additional property. Having constructed a stable life, I now find profound fulfillment in supporting others facing similar challenges, particularly those navigating disability and poverty.

Offering Hope to Others

My narrative encompasses significant hardship but ultimately represents triumph through tenacity. Growing up with a disability, illiterate parents, financial insecurity, and societal prejudice created formidable obstacles, yet I refused to be defined by these circumstances. To anyone confronting seemingly insurmountable challenges, I offer this encouragement: maintain your determination, believe in your capabilities, and disregard limiting projections from others. True success emerges when your commitment becomes absolute—whether this wisdom stems from my personal experience or echoes someone else’s insight, its truth remains undeniable. My journey demonstrates that with unwavering resolve, you can transcend any limitation.
